Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about SellSignal.
Data & Accuracy
Where does your data come from?
SellSignal aggregates real-time data from multiple industry-standard cryptocurrency APIs and indexes. We combine price data, market metrics, sentiment indicators, on-chain analytics, and DeFi protocol data to build a comprehensive market picture.
Each data source is selected for reliability, update frequency, and coverage. We continuously validate data quality and cross-reference between providers.
Why don’t your numbers match CoinMarketCap, CoinGecko, or TradingView?
Different platforms calculate metrics like total market cap, trading volume, and sentiment indexes using different methodologies. Each provider tracks a different set of exchanges, applies different wash-trading filters, and verifies circulating supply independently.
For example, one provider may aggregate data from 1,600+ exchanges while another uses 790+. They also differ in how they handle wrapped tokens, bridged assets, and low-liquidity pairs. These differences are normal across the industry and don’t indicate errors.
How often is data updated?
Market data refreshes every 15–30 seconds. Sentiment indicators like the Fear & Greed Index update every few minutes. Longer-term data like historical price ranges and on-chain metrics update less frequently since they change more slowly.
The “As of” timestamp on the dashboard shows when data was last fetched.
Why does your Fear & Greed index differ from other sites?
There are several crypto Fear & Greed indexes, and each uses different inputs and weightings. Some focus exclusively on Bitcoin, while others analyze the top 10–20 cryptocurrencies. Some use historical volatility (backward-looking), while others use implied volatility from options markets (forward-looking).
Other differentiators include social media sentiment analysis, Google Trends data, stablecoin supply ratios, and derivatives market put/call ratios. Differences of 10–15+ points between providers on the same day are completely normal.
AI & Analysis
How are exit plans generated?
Exit plans are generated by our AI, which analyzes real-time and historical market data — including price trends across multiple timeframes, volatility patterns, trading volume, on-chain holder data, and broader market sentiment.
The AI synthesizes this data to suggest price targets, stop-loss levels, and position sizing guidance tailored to each coin’s current conditions. Every recommendation includes the evidence and reasoning behind it.
How are support/resistance levels and price targets calculated?
Our AI analyzes historical price action across multiple timeframes (7-day, 30-day, 90-day, and 365-day), candlestick patterns, volume profiles, and market structure to identify key price levels.
These are AI-generated estimates based on data patterns, not outputs from a single technical analysis formula. They’re designed as decision support tools to help you plan exits, not as guaranteed predictions.
How accurate are the AI analyses?
You can review our historical accuracy on the Track Record page, which shows past analyses alongside what actually happened. We believe in transparency — you can see where the AI was right and where it missed.
No prediction system is 100% accurate. Crypto markets are inherently volatile and influenced by factors that can’t always be anticipated. SellSignal is a decision support tool, not a crystal ball.
What AI model powers SellSignal?
SellSignal uses Anthropic’s Claude, a state-of-the-art large language model known for careful reasoning and nuanced analysis. The AI is given real market data and structured prompts to produce evidence-backed assessments.
Product & Features
What’s the difference between Free and Pro?
Free accounts get 3 AI analyses per day, including health checks and market briefs with real market data.
Pro ($29/month) unlocks 100 analyses per day, exit plans with specific price targets and stop-losses, full analysis history, and priority processing. See our Pricing page for a full comparison.
What is a “health check” vs an “exit plan”?
A health check is a comprehensive assessment of a coin’s current condition — scoring it across dimensions like momentum, volatility, sentiment, and risk. Think of it as a checkup for your position.
An exit plan (Pro only) goes further: it gives you specific price targets for taking profit, stop-loss levels for managing risk, and position sizing recommendations. It’s an actionable strategy, not just a diagnosis.
What is the Gem Finder?
The Gem Finder scans the top 1,000 coins by market cap, filters out stablecoins and wrapped tokens, then scores each coin across multiple signals including momentum, sentiment, and market positioning. It surfaces coins that may be undervalued or showing early signs of strength.
How does the Track Record work?
The Track Record page shows past AI analyses alongside actual market outcomes. For each prediction, you can see what the AI recommended, what price levels it set, and what actually happened. This gives you a transparent view of the AI’s historical performance.
